Reflecting on the Joyful and Memorable Moments of the Spring Festival Holiday: My Experience
As the most important traditional festival in China, the Spring Festival is a time for families to come together, enjoy each other's company, and celebrate the new year. Every year, around this time, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of the Spring Festival holiday. In this essay, I reflect on my experience during the Spring Festival holiday, specifically focusing on the joyful and memorable moments.
The Preparation
The Spring Festival holiday is a time of preparation, from decorating the house to buying new clothes, and preparing festive food. I helped prepare for this grand festival by cleaning the house with my parents and grandma, putting up red lanterns, and decorating the Chinese character "fu" on the door. This character symbolizes good fortune and wealth, and it is customary to have it on the door during the Spring Festival. We also prepared traditional food, such as dumplings, fish, and glutinous rice cakes, which represent prosperity, abundance, and reunion. The preparation stage was both exciting and fun as we worked together to create a festive atmosphere.
The Reunion Dinner
On New Year's Eve, my family had a grand reunion dinner which is known as "Nian Ye Fan" in China. This meal was a special and significant event as it brings all family members together, regardless of where they are in the world. We talked and laughed while enjoying the delicious food. After dinner, we watched the Spring Festival Gala on TV that includes singing, dancing, comedy skits, and acrobatics. We welcomed the new year with traditional fireworks and watched the colorful displays light up the sky, filling everyone with joy and excitement.
Exchanging Red Envelopes
Another essential tradition during the Spring Festival is the exchange of red envelopes containing money. In China, giving these red envelopes or "Hongbao" to children is a way of blessing them with good luck and fortune for the new year. My parents gave me and my brother red envelopes filled with money, and we felt delighted and blessed. We also exchanged red envelopes with our cousins and friends, which added to the festive spirit of the holidays.
Making Rice Dumplings
Rice dumplings, or "tangyuan," is another traditional food that we enjoyed during the Spring Festival holiday. They are round glutinous rice balls filled with sweet or savory stuffing and are usually served in a soup. Making rice dumplings was an important activity for my family during the holiday. We gathered together in the kitchen, rolled the dough, stuffed it with ingredients, and boiled them in water. It was a collaborative experience that brought us a lot of fun and warmth.
Visiting Relatives
During the Spring Festival holiday, people also visit their relatives and friends to exchange greetings and wish them good fortune in the new year. My family visited my grandparents, uncles, and aunt, who lived in the city. We chatted, drank tea, and enjoyed the homemade food. My grandparents, who are getting old, were happy to have us visit, and we felt grateful for the precious time spent together.
In conclusion, the Spring Festival holiday is the most important event for my family and me, and it is a time where we can share in each other's company, make memories, and reflect on our blessings. The joyful and memorable moments that I shared during the holiday will forever remain in my heart, and I look forward to continuing these traditions with my family and friends in the years to come.
