Discovering the Charm and Beauty of My Hometown through English Writing
Growing up in a small town in the countryside of China, I never thought much about the charm and beauty of my hometown until I began to study English writing. It was only then that I began to realize how much my humble town had to offer in terms of culture, history, and natural beauty.
My town is located in the western part of China, surrounded by lush green mountains and clear blue rivers. There are many traditional villages in the area, each with its unique culture and history. One of my favorite places is a scenic spot called Shuimo Yangtianxia, which means “waterfall in the clouds.” The waterfall is situated on a mountain, and its cascading waters create a magical mist that shrouds the area, giving the impression of clouds floating in the sky.
Another spot that I discovered through English writing is a museum that showcases the history of the silk industry in the area. I was amazed to learn how silk production played an integral role in the development of our town and how our ancestors had perfected the art of making silk fabric.

For example, there is a traditional snack made from sticky rice, pork, and other ingredients that is wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed. It is called zongzi and is often eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival. Another local specialty is a type of savory pancake made from corn and green onions, which is fried until crispy and served hot.
As I continued to explore my hometown through English writing, I realized how much I had taken for granted and how much there was to appreciate. I became more curious and eager to learn about the history, culture, and people of my hometown.
